Inspired by your lovely newsletter, I cast on a sock in September! I haven't knit socks (or really much else) since my first kid was born 7 years ago... so it feels great to be at it again. I'm just doing a pattern that came with some yarn my mother-in-law gave me :-)
This is the year for Solstice Socks. So, as soon as I've finished the gift yarn pair I have on the needles, I'm casting on Knit Spin Farm's Backyard Boughs - reds and greens of balsam, honeysuckle, cedar cone, bay leaf, and crab apple with snowflake speckles. And it's DK, just the thing for cozy winter house socks!
I need to get back to mending! I have 3 pairs in need of some TLC although I suspect one pair have gone a little too far (sock puppet maybe?! ). I've somewhat lost my sock mojo but i do have a pair of WYS starling ribbed socks in my backpack I just haven't reached for them in weeks. Happy sock knitting everyone ❤️
Earlier this year I went through the sock drawer and turned out all the pairs which had worn down to being almost threadless. They had all been washed in the machine since they came off the needles and over many years, had lost a lot of fluff and springiness. So it was time to replenish the drawer.
I knitted a couple of pairs for myself, and then the charity group I knit for needed socks for children, so that became #1 focus. With winter warm socks now put away, it is probably time to assess the sock drawer once again, I’m sure there are another pair or two that have outlived their usefulness.
Currently on the needles is a very bright stripe pair which will be sent overseas next year in the charity group 2025 campaign.
Your socks are so pretty! I just finished a very pink pair for a year long sock KAL I’m in, and I’m going to pick up a couple old sock WIPs to work on for the rest of October. I need to get out my drying rack and do a big wash of all my socks that are in a pile on my floor right now. :(
These all sound like great plans. I’m still kicking myself for not getting handknits washed and outside on some of the unexpectedly nice days we’ve had recently !
And I'll go first! I absolutely, 100% must mend at least four pairs of socks this quarter! The sock drawer is once again looking in a sorry state! I would love to finish this cosy pair of socks I've worked on and off this year, and maybe start a festive pair ... we'll see if I make it that far!

Hoorah Heather! I’m so excited to hear you’ve cast on some socks — look forward to hearing how you get on with them !!

Mending seems a great answer when sock knitting mojo is low! We can encourage each other along — I’ve got a lot of mending to do!

What a wonderful mix of knitting for yourself and others!! So smart to periodically clear the sock drawer out!
