Almost four years ago to the day, I sewed my first garment. I distinctly remember sharing my excitement over a new chapter of handmade wardrobe-ing with a friend, before adding “but if I say I’m going to start making my own underwear or anything, please bring me to my senses.”
I’m sure you can see where this is going. Earlier this month, I sewed my first Dune Set, and yesterday I finally wore it … and, while I won’t go as far as saying it was a revelation, it was pretty darn comfortable and got me very excited about making under things that meet my own idiosyncratic specifications.
Anyway, it got me thinking: what other techniques/materials/projects have you sworn off, only to later embrace? It doesn’t have to be a full-blown conversion (though bonus points for those!); maybe you’ve just reached a grudging rapprochement. I’d love to hear: about the weight of yarn you swore you’d never use, then made a garment in; the fibre you swore off, only to find you loved it; the type of thing you never thought you’d want to make yourself … you get the picture!
I don't crochet. My great grandmother tried to teach me when I was maybe 7 or 8. I couldn't do it then and I can't do it now. I'll never crochet...until Ravelry friends encouraged me to sign up for Sue Maton's Homage to the Granny Square. I did it! Then I crocheted another thing! Any minute, I'll start on a third...

Nancy, I love this! What a huge undertaking to dive into to when you'd sworn off crochet!
