Hello and happy second quarter of Make Socks, Mend Socks 2024! Here’s a space to chat about your sock-y endeavours over the next three months! Whether you took part last quarter and met every goal, dipped your toes in (haha) or are joining fresh this quarter, I’m so happy you’re here! A few things:
First, I’ve pulled a name out of the
hatsock for our Q1 Make Socks Mend Socks prize recipient, and it’s Alice / Dr Sockstagram ! Alice had an amazing first quarter of making and mending, a very worthy winner (as all of you would be — I wish I could send everyone a wee prize!) Alice, I’ll be in touch with you directly to organize getting some sock-themed goodies to you.Second, on the subject of prizes … I’ll do another little sock-related prize for this quarter, drawn from everyone who participates. The absolute best way to “enter”is to comment here about your progress — anything from “hoorah I’ve made a finished pair,” to “what mend should I use”, to “can anyone suggest a pattern for …”. Share as often as you’d like, every comment is an entry — and feel free to link to your Instagram/Ravelry project/other photo hosting platform if you’d like. [I’m still mulling over using the chat function here, maybe for the second half of the year.] I’m hoping we can keep building a really lovely sock community here!
If you’d like to share on Instagram too (and gosh, I’ve really enjoyed seeing your posts so far) use the hashtag #makesocksmendsocks2024 . I’ll do my level best to make sure anyone who posts on Instagram is included in the prize draw, but Meta has made it increasingly difficult to browse hashtags (even if you follow the hashtag!) But it’s still really nice to have a space to share photos and inspiration, so do use the hashtag if you fancy (and tag me too, so I don’t miss your post — see above about Meta!)
Finally, just as a quick reminder, here’s the landing page for Make Socks Mend Socks, which included links to the quarterly chats as well as to some guides for getting started with socks and mending!
Happy making and mending!
I know Q2 ended a little while ago- I mended one pair, and made five! I thought I only made one until I looked through my Instagram and realised that I actually did far more sock knitting than I thought. I think Q3 will be quite productive as I have a few WIPs that are close to being finished and lots of travel knitting time! The mending pile is still overflowing though…
Nearly the end of June, so I thought I’d check what socks I’ve knitted this quarter. Mainly I’ve been knitting socks for children which will be sent to Ukraine later in the year. The group I knit for gets jumpers and hats, but frequently socks are missing from the sets, so I’ve made five pairs recently, two pairs for 4-6 y.o., two pairs for 18 months- 2 y.o., and one pair 2-4.
I’m knitting a pair of socks for myself too, but only have one finished at present. I’m planning a lacy pair next.
